The Light of Amsterdam

For Amsterdam’s 750th birthday, a music concert was held at the Ziggo Dome. As co-director I worked in collaboration with GAIIA Studio to create the visual concept and background visuals for the concert.

The concert featured many different artists and music styles and we created a visual theme “The Light of Amsterdam” to visualize all the different artists and cultures of Amsterdam.

We crafted background visuals for each show segment to complement the theme and style of the songs. For example for one of the scenes we lit up every single window of iconic buildings like the Rijksmuseum, NEMO and Paleis op de Dam. For a different scene we created long glowing lines of light by cycling with a cargo-bike through the city with a big latern light. Almost all of the scenes were shot on real locations or in the studio and brought together in post.

It took over 5 months of filming, editing, compositing and programming to bring all of the elements together for the show.
